EU: Russia must reduce red tape on visas
The EU Commission warns that Russia could face an exodus of highly-qualified foreign managers and workers unless it reduces red tape required to obtain visas and work permits.
As reported by BarentsObserver, the EU Commission has written a letter to Russian authorities where it calls for improved visa conditions for people involved in EU-Russian projects. Russia last year changed its visa rules and ceased issuing one-year multipleentry business visas that many European workers had previously used. Business visas now allow visitors to stay for only 90 days within any 180-day period. Workers who want to stay in Russia full-time must apply for work visas and work permits, which companies and individuals have complained is such an onerous process that many are simply giving up and going home, the Financial Times reports.
