Finnish military authorities will this week conduct Open Skies intelligence flights over Russia. Two weeks ago, a Russian plane made a similar flight over Finland.

The Open Skies operations are part of an international agreement on intelligence flights. The flight route and objects for photographing have to be agreed upon in advance. This week’s flight in Russia is conducted jointly by Finland and Germany in a Saab 340B aircraft.

Two weeks ago, Russian and French intelligence representatives made similar a flight over Finland with a Russian An-30B aircraft, the Finnish Armed Forces report on their website.

Finland joined the Open Skies arrangement in 2003.
