Finnish PM wants Norway to join EU
Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen says in an interview with YLE News that he would like to see both Norway and Iceland in the European Union.
Today, Denmark, Finland and Sweden are members of the European Union, while Iceland, Denmark and Norway are NATO members. Matti Vanhanen says he would like to see all of the Nordic Countries in the European Union and the euro zone. Finland is today the only Nordic country to use euro.
Cooperation in defence is moving forward. In air defence, Finland and Sweden will soon be working together with NATO member Norway, and the Defence Staff is considering how the different countries could specialise in the different parts of defence. Cooperation would bring savings, according to the Finnish Prime Minister.
Vanhanen says the attraction of Nordic cooperation is enhanced by the fact that it gives Finland access to inside information about NATO, YLE News reports.
