First visit to Norway for Dmitrienko
Murmansk Governor Dmitri Dmitrienko will make his first official visit to Norway on Thursday.
UPDATE: Dmitriyenko’s visit to Norway postponed
Governor Dmitrienko will meet acting governor of Finnmark Tor Stafsnes in the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes. The aim of the meeting is to sign this year’s cooperation agreement regarding nuclear safety projects on the Kola Peninsula, according to the portal of the governor of Finnmark.
The main part of the agreement involves different projects related to the Andreeva bay nuclear waste storage facility in the Litsa fjord halfway between the city of Murmansk and the border to Norway. Here, the Russian Northern fleet has its main storage facility for spent nuclear fuel, but also large amount of solid radioactive waste that are stored in unsatisfactory conditions partly outdoor.

The Norwegian supported projects in Andreeva bay are mainly connected with improvement of infrastructure. The Norwegian government has highlighted projects in the Andreeva bay as some of the most important projects included in the Norwegian Action Plan for nuclear safety measures with Russia.
Former Governor of Murmansk Oblast Yuri Yevdokimov was often visiting Norway, but he was sacked in April last year and replaced with Dmitri Dmitrienko. The new Murmansk governor was supposed to visit the Kirkenes Conference in February, but canceled the visit.
