Fishermen want oil explorers out
The ongoing seismic studies in the Lofoten area outside northern Norway scare away up to 80 percent of the fish, researchers say. The local fish industry now fears that the oil industry could create chaos in connection with the upcoming halibut catch period.
Representatives of the fish industry will meet with the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate next week. In the meeting they will express their concern over the ongoing seismic studies in northern waters. New research shows that catch results are 50-80 percent down in the periods of the seismic operations.
