Fishery spetsnaz

The Russian Fishery Agency (Rosrybolovstvo) plans to increase the number of fisheries inspectors with 50 percent and establish a special force unit to be used in the fight against poachers.

Head of The Russian Fishery Agency Andrey Krayny has proclaimed that the number of fisheries inspectors will be increased from 3000 to 4500, the agency writes on its web pages.

The inspectors will get the right to carry arms and will be equipped with 200 new outboard motors and several drones for air surveillance.

A mobile quick reaction force unit will be established by the Moscow-Oksky Regional Department of The Russian Fishery Agency. The team will consist of fisheries inspectors and 20 professional soldiers with experience from hot spots. The unit will be sent to fight poachers in particularly difficult places like Dagestan, where poaching of sturgeon has grown to industrial proportions.

- This will be a real special force unit with people that you cannot scare, Krayny says.
