Foreign investments down
Foreign investments in Russia in 2008 dropped 14,2 percent year-on-year from 2007. Meanwhile, the country’s foreign trade turnover still increased strongly.
A total of 103 billion USD was invested in Russia by foreign companies last year. That is a decrease of 14,2 percent from 2007.
In 2008, Cyprus was the biggest investor in Russia with a total of 56.9 billion USD, followed by the Netherlands (46.34 billion USD), Luxemburg (34.4 billion USD), the UK (30.8 billion USD), Germany (17. Billion USD) and France (9.5 billion USD), RIA Novosti reports with reference to figures from the Russian Statistics Service.
At the same time, the Russian foreign trade turnover in 2008 increased with as much as 32,2 percent from 2007. The trade turnover totaled 763,7 billion USD, figures from the Statistics service show. 2008 followed nine year in a row with major foreign trade growth.
