Foreign trade breakdown
The foreign trade turnover of Arkhangelsk Oblast in January dropped 70 percent year-on-year from 2008, figures from regional customs authorities show.
In the period from 1 January to 4 February, foreign trade turnover dropped an unprecedented 69,1 percent, tax inspector Tatiana Siminda says to newspaper Pravda Severa.
Both imports and exports are severely affected by the economic downturn. According to the newspaper, imports were down as much 80 percent in the period.
Neighboring Russian regions experience a similar situation in international trade. Also neighboring countries have major negative trade figures. In Norway, year-on-year export decrease from the mainland amounted to 17,6 percent in January. Imports in the same period dropped 11,3 percent, Innovation Norway informs.
