Former governor goes to the movies
Former governor of Murmansk Oblast, Yuri Yevdokimov has been appointed new leader of the Sankt Petersburg branch of the Russian World Studios, one of Russia’s leading film production companies.
Yevdokimov was sacked as governor in April this year after having criticized the United Russia party for dirty tricks in the city mayor election campaign. Little has since been known about the former governor’s whereabouts.
Yuri Yevdokimov had served as regional governor since 1997. He has now been hired as new leader of the Russian World Studios’ Sankt Petersburg office, newspaper Vedomosti reports.
According to studio representative Dmitrii Meskhev, the company wanted to hire a strong manager (khosyaistvennik). It is however known that Yevdokimov from before is a personal friend of Vladimir Yevtushenko, the founder of the Sistema company, which owns RWS. Yevdkimov himself says to the newspaper that he knows little about films.
Russian World Studios is one of the leading TV-content and film production companies in Russia, and leader in the national film production services market. By 2008, it had produced or serviced more than 400 television and film projects, both Russian and international.
The RWS studio in Sankt Petersburg is among Russia’s ten biggest studios.
