Gazprom and Rosneft split the Russian Arctic
Russian petroluem majors Gazprom and Rosneft have signed a protocol on the split of offshore hydrocarbon resources in the Russian Arctic, Izvestia reports.
The two companies, both controlled by the Russian state, will divide the resources according to the type of hydrocarbons and geographic criteria. Rosneft will get the fields with predominantly oil reserves, while Gazprom will get the gas fields. Both companies also have geographic preferences. A source close to the companies says to Izvestia that the protocol will remain classified. The two companies will also elaborate and present to the Russian Agency of Sub-soil Resources a development programme for the shelf. However, Rosneft is reported to already have got permission to start exploration drilling in the Okhotskoe Sea.
