Gazprom, ConocoPhillips discuss Arctic
ConocoPhillips CEO Jim Mulva yesterday met with Gazprom’s Aleksey Miller to discuss joint projects, among them perspective joint operations in the Arctic.
The two companies met in Gazprom’s Moscow headquarters yesterday. They both have the Arctic as a priority area.
According to a press release from Gazprom, the two companies discussed several Arctic projects, among them in Alaska. The meeting must be seen as a follow-up of the Gazprom management’s recent visit to the far northern U.S. region.
Gazprom believes its experiences from the Arctic, among them in the Yamal Peninsula, can be applied in Alaska. During the company’s visit to the region, the company management especially highlighted possible contributions with regard to pipeline construction.
ConocoPhillips is from before engaged in the Russian North. The company has a 30-percent stake of the Naryanmarneftegas joint venture, which is heavily involved in field development in the Timan-Pechora province.
ConocoPhillips was also among the five bidders for stakes in the Shtokman field, but there lost competition with Total and StatoilHydro.
