Gazprom postpones gasification in Komi
Russian gas major Gazprom had decided to halt its gasification programme in the Komi Republic. The reason is a lack of interest in the region, the gas company argues.
This is not charity — Gazprom needs to make money from the gasification programmes, Gazprom told Komi deputy governor Vyacheslav Gaizer in a recent meeting. According to the gas company, too few people in the region have linked their houses and industry with the new gas infrastructure. That is a main reason why the gas company has halted the development of further gasification in the region, Komiinform.ru reports. Also the difficult financial situation in the company is part of the reason for stopping the programme. The Komi Republic has gas pipeline connections with the rest of Russia. The region is also a key transport region for gas from the Yamal Peninsula
