Gazprom prepares for drilling in Pechora Sea

Gazflot, a subsidiary of Russian energy major Gazprom, intends to conduct exploration drilling at the Dolginskoe field in the Pechora Sea. Last week, the company organised public hearings on the project for people in the nearby Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Gazflot will use the rig “Energy Exerter” for the drilling, Regnum reports. The operation will help the company estimate the resources in prospective field. The Dolginskoe field is located about 200 km north of the regional capital of Naryan-Mar. Gazprom in 2005 secured the license to the field. It is expected that the company will develop the field together with the nearby Prirazlomnoe field. The main issue in the public hearings was the environmental risk connected with the project. According to Regnum, Gazflot has committed itself to conduct environmental monitoring of the area. It will also ship all wastes produced in the project to Murmansk for utilization.
