Goliat platform disappointment
There is only a minor chance that the platform, which shall be built for the “Goliat” oil field in the Barents Sea, will be built in northern Norway. All signals from contractors working with the project indicate that the platform will be built in the south.
This week, oil company ENI organised a workshop in Hammerfest, the northern Norway town were the Snøhvit gas field in the Barents Sea is operated from. Signals from the contractors about where the platform for the Goliat field should be built, now cause disappointment in the region.
Aker Solutions is one of two companies fighting for the ENI contract. The company considers to build large parts of the platform outside Hammerfest. However, the most likely solution is to build the platform at Hanetangen in southwest Norway, where construction costs are less.
