Governor Dmitriyenko visited Pechenga

Murmansk Oblast Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko has visited the Russian municipality of Pechenga on the border to Norway.

This was Dmitriyenko’s first visit to Pechenga in the northeastern corner of Murmansk Oblast, a press release from the Murmansk regional Government reads. The region is home to large industrial enterprises within mining and metallurgy and several military units of different branches.

His visit to the Kola Mining and Metallurgy Company was of a certain importance since the production here is expected to be one of the issues that will be discussed in meetings between Norwegian Prime Ministers Jens Stoltenberg and his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin on May 19.

Dmitriyenko, himself being an old Northern Fleet officer, paid the Northern Fleet’s Naval Infantry brigade in Sputnik a visit and discussed the ongoing reforms of the Russian army with the fleet’s Commander Nikolay Maksimov.

The governor also visited the port of Liinakhamari on the coast of the Barents Sea and requested the municipality administration to come up with proposals for investment projects to develop the fisheries and fish processing sector in the area.
