High North looks south

Secretary of State in the Norwegian Government, Janne Sjelmo Nordås, is afraid that the three northernmost counties in Norway are too small to handle the vast development plans for the High North.

Nordås therefore wants to expand the understandig of the High North.

Secretary of State from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Janne Sjelmo Nordås, met with politicians from northern Norway in Kirkenes recently. She is afraid that research communities in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark counties are too small to handle the large development plans connected with the global interest for resources in High North. Nordås therefore asks for a better cooperation between the three northern counties and the rest of Norway.

Nordås says that High North politics is not a matter for the northern counties solely, but a matter of national interest. Therefore the entire nation should be included in the plans. Nordås emphasizes that the large research communities in Trondheim and Stavanger are examples of important resources which will be vital for the success of the development of Norwegian High North.
