High North on Norwegian-French agenda

During their meeting in Paris today, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Norwegian PM discussed energy cooperation and the High North.

-We spent much time to discuss energy cooperation and the High North, Norway’s Jens Stoltenberg said to the press after the meeting with Mr. Sarkozy. Also climate issues were on the agenda, Aftenposten.no reports. Jens Stoltenberg said that the two countries want to intensify cooperation between energy cooperation and research institutions. The Norwegian energy company StatoilHydro is partner with the French Total in the huge Shtokman field in the Russian part of the Barents Sea. Both President Sarkozy and Prime Minister Stoltenberg are believed to have played key roles in the two companies’ aquisition of stakes in the project. -We want to strengthen our cooperation, PM Stoltenberg concluded.
