Huge interest in mining jobs
Norwegian mining company Sydvaranger needs 250 workers to start production in the old iron mines next to the Russian border. In spite of the tight labour market in northern Norway, the mining company has received more than 200 applications already.
The Norwegian mining company Sydvaranger is planning to start up production in the old iron mines in 2009. When the decision was made, a lot of sceptics thought the company would have a hard time finding enough workers. Now it seems like this will not be a problem. After announcing for managers and middle managers for the different departments of the company, more then 200 workers applied for a job, local Newspaper Sør-Varanger Avis reports.
The process of engaging all the other workers will start next year, but Sydvaranger is optimistic and certain that there will be enough applicants for the available jobs.
