Hurtigruten teams up with National Geographic
The Norwegian Coastal Ferry Hurtigruten will probably grab an even larger part of the international tourism market after the ship-owner Hurtigruten ASA has teamed up with the worldwide known company National Geographic.
- This is an acknowledgement of the Coastal Ferry as being something unique, Managing Director in Hurtigruten ASA Olav Fjell says, web site E24.no reports.
According to Director of the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations Jonathan Tourtellout, the Coastal Ferry is amongst the best examples of sustainable travelling: – The crew is Norwegian, the food is Norwegian and the whole experience is uniquely connected to the country where the vessels sail, something one cannot say about the more traditional cruise traffic, he says.
Last Friday Norwegian investor and media mogul Trygve Hegnar bought 20 percent of the stocks in Hurtigruten ASA, thus becoming the largest owner in the company. The news about the transaction led to a sharp rise in the price of Hurtigruten stocks, E24.no reports.
Hurtigruten is a passenger and freight line with daily sailings along Norway’s spectacular western and northern coast. Ships sail almost the entire length of the country, from Bergen in the south to Kirkenes in the north, completing the roundtrip journey in 11 days. The trip has been described as the “World’s Most Beautiful Sea Voyage.”
National Geographic runs TV-channels and several magazines, the most known being the National Geographic Magazine, which is published on 32 different languages with a circulation of nearly nine million.
