IKEA looks towards Barents Region

In connection with the opening of the world’s northernmost IKEA store in Haparanda-Tornio in 2006, IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad allocated one million SEK (106.000 EUR) to project cooperation in the Barents Region. Now, the Barents Reunion initiative is coming into being.

The goal with the initiative is to stimulate cooperation between the peoples in the Barents Region. Several other financers have now joined the IKEA initiative, among them Polarica, Peab and Akelius.

The idea with Barents Reunion is to organised annual conferences in the Haparanda-Tornio area with thematic like business, education, labour markets, energy, environment, culture and sports.

The first Barents Reunion conference will be held in Haparanda 12-13 June 2008
