Increasing pressure on Apatity mayor

Prosecutors in Murmansk Oblast has started pressed two criminal charges against the mayor of Apatity, one of the biggest cities in the Kola Peninsula.

According to Regnum, city Mayor Mikhail Antropov, a representative of the Communist Party, is charged with having signed documents which contradict federal legislation. He is also charged with having refused to dismiss a key employee, although a court previously decided that the person is not allowed to work for state authorities.

As reported previously by BarentsObserver, some analysts believe the charges against Mr. Antropov might be politically motivated.
