Indigenous peoples agree on "Bovanenkovskoe"

Operator Gazprom has got the necessary consent from regional indigenous peoples for the development of the huge Bovanenkovskoe field in the Yamal Peninsula.

-The intrusion of the oil industry in a zone managed by indigenous peoples is conducted in a highly careful and civilized manner, head of Gazprom subsidiary Gazprom Dobycha Nadym, Mr. Igor Morozov says, Yamal.org report. He adds that all decisions regarding the laying of pipelines and infrastructure in the area are made only after consultations with representatives of the regional indigenous peoples.

Mr. Morozov underlines that 15 reindeer passages across the new Obskaya-Bovanenkovskaya railway are being provided for, and that the migration routes of the regional reindeers have been carefully studied Gazprom is in a hurry to complete the Bovanenkovskoe field – the first of the giant field in the Yamal Peninsula. Production in the field is to start already in year 2011, whereupon annual gas production will be first 115 billion cubic meters and later 140 billion cubic meters.

The far northern Yamal Peninsula is a top priority for Gazprom, which wants to boost total annual extraction in the area to 250 billion cubic meters.
