Industrial production down in Murmansk

The heavily industrialized Murmansk Oblast in 2008 saw a decrease in industrial production. Also power consumption dropped.

According to figures from the Ministry of Regional Development, industrial output in the region was down three percent year-on-year from 2007. Power consumption was down with 0,6 percent, Regnum reports. Murmansk Oblast is dependent on mining and metallurgy industry, as well as on fisheries and the military. The regional economy is export-dependent.
