Kola NPP may win beauty contest

Julia and Olesya from Polyarny Zori are currently having good chances of becoming Miss Atom 2009.

Polyarny Zori is the home town of Kola Nuclear Power Plant.

More than 350 female employees from the nuclear industry in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Lithuania are participating in the beauty contest.

The online voting to select winners of the international beauty contest “Miss Atom 2009” continues until March 5th. On Thursday this week, Julia Netchaeva and Olesya Romanova from Kola Nuclear Power plant were on the top off the online voting.

The contest is organized by nuclear.ru an independent information source specializing in nuclear industry-related topics.

General Manager of nuclear.ru, Ilya Platonov, says it is not the number of contestants that matters but the fact that Miss Atom reaches its image-related targets.

- We closely monitor Russian and foreign media reports on the contest and note that perplexity or irony increasingly gives up leaving more space for respect towards nuclear and admiration of beauty of girls working for it, Platonov says in an interview with his own web-site.

The editorial crew of BarentsObserver will not spend time on contributing to any speculations about irony or not. On behalf of our female readers we are too busy looking for “Mr. Atom 2009”, so far without results.

The winner of Miss Atom 2009 will be announced on March 6.
