Less Russian tourists to Norway

The number of Russian tourists to Norway fell with 32 percent in 2009 compared to the year before. The two first months of 2010, however, show a 15 percent increase.

14.015 Russians visited Norway as tourists last year, web site Travel.ru writes. At the same time, 27.856 Norwegian tourists visited Russia. This is 19 percent less than in 2008.

These figures were presented by the Norwegian-Russian working group on tourism in connection with the meeting in the Intergovernmental Russian-Norwegian Commission on economical, industrial and scientific cooperation, which was held in Moscow last week.

In spite of the closeness to Russia and the relative informality in obtaining visas to Norway, Norway is losing Russian tourists. This is mainly a result of the high price level in Norway, the working group concluded.

In course of the first two months of 2010, the number of Russian tourists to Norway rose 15 percent compared to the same period in 2009.
