Light in the tunnel for Russian industry?

Electricity consumption in February dropped 4,8 percent, which is less than in January. Analysts believe the trend might mean that the country is about turn the negative development in its industry.

In January, electricity consumption dropped with as much as 7,7 percent, the Moscow Times reports. Meanwhile, industrial production dropped 16 percent year-on-year, the most dramatic drop in the country in 15 years.

As BarentsObserver reported, also gas consumption dropped in January. Consumption was then eight percent down year-on-year from 2008.

Over the last months, also energy output has dropped. Data from the dispatcher, known as the System Operator, show that power output fell 4,3 percent in February year on year, with a total of 86,3 billion KWh produced and 85 billion consumed across the country, the Moscow Times writes.

The lower decrease in power consumption might mean that Russian industry is using more power and that the country might have overcome the worst part of the crisis.
