LNG carriers for Shtokman

Gazprom considers to place contracts on the construction of two LNG carriers for the Shtokman project in the Northern Shipyard in Sankt Petersburg, company Deputy Director Aleksandr Ananenkov confirms.

Mr. Ananenkov said the contracts will be prepared together with Russian shipping major Sovcomflot and that documentation for tenders will be ready by the fourth quarter of the year, Murmanchanin.ru reports with reference to Rosbalt.

The Gazprom leader admitted however that Russia currently has only one yard able to construct the vessels – the Northern Shipyard (Severnaya Verf) in Sankt Petersburg.

About half of all gas from the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea is planned exported as LNG.
