Mayor of Kirovsk killed
The Mayor of Kirovsk, Murmansk Oblast, Ilya Kelmanzon was shot dead in his office early this morning. He is the second local mayor in Murmansk Oblast to be killed in a little more than three months.
The regional police department says that Ilya Kelmanzon and his deputy both were shot and killed by a local businessman, who then tried to take his own life. The killer survived, and is now being treated at Kirovsk hospital, B-port reports.
This is the second killing of a mayor in Murmansk Oblast in a little more than three months. In December 2008, Mayor of Kandalaksha Nina Varlamova was stabbed to death outside her house.
