The Ministry of Internal Affairs has placed Alla Konstantinova on the wanted list.

Mediazona journalist Alla Konstantinova placed on Russia's wanted list

The journalist, originally from the Republic of Karelia, is accused of violating Russia's so-called 'foreign agent' law.

Living in exile, Alla Konstantinova is an award winning journalist for her reporting on rapes committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

This spring, a criminal case was initiated against Konstaninova for violating the so-called 'foreign agent' law. The journalist had allegedly failed to mention her status as 'foreign agent' in updates she wrote on Telegram.

Alla Konstantinova was included in the register of 'foreign agents' in April 2022.

In 2024, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that Russia had violated the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms by recognising the journalists of Important Stories and the publication itself as 'foreign agents'. Several of the journalists were awarded thousands of euros in compensation.

They are all unlikely to ever see the money.

In September 2022, the Russian parliament passed a law ending the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the country.

Before the criminal case was opened against Alla Konstantinova, a Petrozavodsk Court imposed administrative fines against her three times: for publications without indicating her status and for failure to provide financial activity reports.
