Medvedev: Good progress in arms deal talks
The United States and Russia have made significant progress in their talks about a new strategic nuclear disarmament treaty.
The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START-1) between the two countries expired on December 5th.

Russian news agencies, like RIA Novosti, now quote Medvedev saying “we have taken a fairly serious step forward, and to a significant degree we have brought our positions closer.”
The new treaty’s outline, as agreed on by the Russian president Medvedev and U.S. presidents Obama, a cut in the nuclear arsenals to 1,500-1,675 operational warheads and 500 – 1,000 delivery vehicles.
