Military satellite launched from Plesetsk

A military satellite was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Oblast last week, the Russian Ministry of Defense reports.

The satellite – of the Kosmos series – was launched early morning on April 27 and will be used in the Defence Ministry’s service, the ministry’s web site reads.

According to web site Spaceflightnow.com, Tuesday’s launch was the 10th Russian space launch in 2010 from Plesetsk and the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It was the 17th launch to successfully reach orbit this year from sites around the world.

The Plesetsk Cosmodrome has since its opening in 1967 conducted more than 420 launches, and more than 750 satellites and other spacecrafts have been put into orbit.
