Mitsui eyes stake in Shtokman development

The Japanese company Mitsui &Co confirms that it is in talks with Gazprom about possible engagement in several of the gas company’s projects, among them the Shtokman project in the Barents Sea.

Representatives of Mitsui &Co today told the Nikkei business daily that it considers an alliance with Gazprom in the Shtokman project, Reuters reports. From before the Japanese company is partner with Gazprom in the Sakhalin-2 project. The information about Mitsui’s enhanced interest in Russia comes after Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin this week paid an official visit to Japan. Part of his delegation was Gazprom leader Aleksey Miller.
