More power for Nenets Okrug
Moscow will return taxes and powers to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Ilya Klebanov, head of the Northwest Russian Federal District said in yesterday’s inauguration ceremony of the new Nenets AO Governor Igor Fyodorov. In times of crisis, the region is better managed from the region itself, the federal authorities admit.
Since January 2008, a significant part of Nenets powers and taxes have been administrated from neighboring Arkhangelsk oblast.
The announcement by Mr. Klebanov will bring relations between the Nenents AO and Arkhangelsk Oblast back to the relations prior to January 1, 2008.
This makes it possible to keep management efficiency of authorities in crisis conditions. New head of the Nenets AO administration and the regional legislative assembly will work out new agreements between Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Arkhangelsk Oblast, said Klebanov.
-Arkhangelsk Oblast will in today’s situation not be able to cope the obligations in the Nenets AO, the presidential aide told the Nenets TV and Radio Channel.
