Moscow stands by regional infrastructure projects

The financial crisis will not make the federal government decrease state investments in regional housing, infrastructure and transport projects, a high-ranking official said in a seminar today.

Mr. Oleg Fomichev, department leader in the Ministry of Economic Development, did say however that state investments in the regions will shrink following the crisis and confirmed that a plan on the issue will be made public next month. Still, Mr. Fomichev, who today participated in a seminar on strategic planning in Russian regions, underlined that the projects, which despite the crisis, prove their investment attraction, will continue to get state support. He also confirmed that the federal government will not decrease subsidies to housing projects, infrastructure and transport, Regnum reports.
