Murmansk among best places for the press
A new press freedom rating from the Glasnost Defence Foundation shows that Murmansk Oblast and the Republic of Karelia are regions with relatively good conditions for the press, while regions like Arkhangelsk Oblast and the Komi Republic are categorized as regons with relatively little freedom for the press.
A total of 19 Russian regions are categorized as “relatively free”, while 45 regions are “relatively not free” and 17 regions “not free”.
The rating shows the level of freedom for both the printed and electronic press.
The republic of Karelia is one of six regions which have positively improved in the study and climbed from “relatively not free” to “relatively free” ”relatively free”, Arkhangelsk ”relatively not free”
