Murmansk cuts back on state apparatus

The regional government in Murmansk hopes to save 50 million roubles annually by downsizing the bureaucracy with some 100 positions, says Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko.

The regional administration has 1116 state officials and people in public positions, RIA Novosti reports. According to federal demands, Murmansk Oblast must cut back the bureaucratic apparatus with 20 percent in the next three years.

In 2009 more than 100 officials were dismissed, saving regional budgets 36 million roubles. According to Dmitriyenko between 6 and 10 percent of official positions will be cut back in 2010 and the two coming years.

The money saved by these steps will be used for writing off the six billion roubles budget deficit that Murmansk Oblast has, says Governor Dmitriyenko.
