Murmansk governor: Vote for United Russia!
Murmansk Governor Yury Yevdokimov today officially addressed the population of Murmansk with a request to go to the polls in Sunday’s city mayor’s elections. –United Russia is the party which we now have to lean on, he underlined.
In his address, the governor underlined the importance of stability in the current times of economic crisis. He also highlighted the role of United Russia, saying that the party is “the force which we now have to lean on”, a press release from the governor reads.
-This is the core, around which all sound forces in our society now gather, the forces capable of helping the President and the Prime Minister get out of today’s difficult situation, he said.
–Remember this when you go to the polls, he added. At the same time he also encouraged supporters of other parties to go to the polls.
The address comes after major political turbulence around the governor, following his critical remarks about United Russia’s election methods. Speaking to the press, Yevdokimov said that the party is using dirty tricks in the ongoing election campaign.
The governor’s statements came after the Murmansk branch of United Russia chose current city mayor Mikhail Savchenko as its official candidate and not former deputy governor Sergey Subbotin as preferred by Yevdokimov.
With the statement, Yevdokimov is likely to have expressed the necessary support to the Russian ruling party. He is also most likely to be able to remain in his post.
