Murmansk puts stop to oil reloading in Kola Bay
The reloading of oil from floating terminals in the Kola Bay will come to an end with the development of the Murmansk Transport Hub. In the future, all reloading of oil will made at a new land-based terminal, regional Governor Yuri Yevdokimov confirms.
The Murmansk Transport Hub, a huge industry and infrastructure project in Murmansk Oblast, will include the construction of a new 25 million ton oil terminal on the western shore of the Kola Bay. The new terminal will make the current floating terminals in the Kola Bay superfluous, Governor Yevdokimov says.
This means that the 360,000 ton “Belokamenka” tanker, currently operating as oil terminal in the area, will be removed, newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports. The removal of the tanker comes despite the fact that it currently brings 5 billion RUB of incomes to the region.
According to the newspaper, the management of the Murmansk Transport Hub has already decided that the floating terminal will have to be removed.
Governor Yevdokimov says to Rossiiskaya Gazeta that the removal of the floating terminals will be to the good for the region. He maintains that the huge industrial projects included in the Murmansk Transport Hub will bring far more revenues.
The new land-based terminal will be the second petroleum-related industrial plant within the Murmansk Transport Hub project. Also a refinery with a 12 million tons capacity is planned in the area.
