Murmansk Shipping Company buys chemical tankers

Murmansk Shipping Company plans to buy four chemical tankers with deadweight of 43.000 tons from Sevmash shipyard in Severodvnisk.

According to General Director of Murmansk Shipping Company (MSC) Alexander Medvedev, the company is negotiating with several Russian and foreign enterprises on purchase of new vessels, newspaper Arkticheskaya Zvezda:

- We are negotiating with Sevmash on purchase of four 43.000 tons chemical tankers that are under construction at the shipyard right now. Ha also mentioned that MSC just recently had a visit by a delegation of Chinese shipbuilders, with whom they are negotiating on construction of a series of 30.000 ton bulkers.

The chemical tankers are probably the same as Sevmash started building for the Norwegian shipping company Odfjell. As BarentsObserver reported, this contract was cancelled by the Norwegian part in 2008 because of delays and cost overruns. Sevmash was recently fined by the Stockholm Arbitrary Court to pay 43 million USD to Odfjell.
