National park gets new vistors’ center

The Russian national park in Pasvik Valley, Pasvik Zapovednik, will soon get its own visitors’ center in the middle of the border town of Nikel.

The visitors’ center will be a permanent base for information about the park to people from the Russian, Norwegian and Finnish parts of the border area. It will also house scientific seminars and other events connected to the work of the park.

The Pasvik Zapovednik is part of the Pasvik-Inari Trilateral Park which covers areas in Finland, Norway and Russia.

The center is now under construction and is planned to be opened in 2014. Kola Mining Company, Norilsk Nickel daughter and cornerstone company in Nikel, covers all expenses connected to the planning and building of the visitors’ center, B-Port writes.
