NATO rescue sub for Norwegian Navy
For the first time, Norway now possesses a submarine specialized for advanced rescue operations. Together with the UK and France, Norway has developed the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS)
Norway has previously leaned on services from other countries’ submarine rescue services. Now, however, Norway has together with the UK and France developed a system which can save a sub crew at 600 depths, the press service of the Norwegian Navy reports.
The Nato Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) will be based in Glasgow, but can easily be transported all over the world with aircrafts, trucks or boats. The equipment has a capacity of 150 people and can be placed on any military or civil vessel with decks bigger than 10 times 40 meter, Mil.no reports.
In case of an emergency situation, the intention is to get the first person onboard the rescue vessel in the course of 72 hours, submarine captain Åge-Bernt Svendsen says to Mil.no.
