Nenets AO city mayor resigns
The mayor of Naryan-Mar, the regional capital of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, yesterday announced his resignation. The announcement comes after the record-high level of support for Communist candidate Gennadii Zyuganov in last weekends presidential elections.
The announcement from Mr. Leonid Sablin came just after a meeting with regional governor Valerii Potapenko, Rusnord reports. The official reason for the resignation is Mr. Sablins health problems. However, regional analysts do not exclude that the actual reason behind the resignation is the relatively low level of local support for Dmitrii Medvedev in the recent presidential elections. Meanwhile, the Communist candidate Gennadii Zyuganov secured the record-high 25 percent support from the electorate. Mr. Sablin is himself a member of the Communist Party.
