New deep-sea port for Murmansk
The Russian Transport Ministry will in the near future start the construction of a new deep-sea port in Murmansk Oblast, Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov said in a government session this week.
Mr. Ivanov, who is in charge of key government infrastructure issues, said he recently had chaired a meeting on the development of the Murmansk Trade Port. -The Ministry of Transport will in the near future start construction works, he confirms, Murman.ru reports with reference to RIA Novosti The new port is part of a major modernization process of industrial facilities along the Kola Bay. In addition to the improved Murmansk Trade Port, new terminals and industrial plants will be built on the western shore of the bay. Also a new 26 km long railway line will be constructed to the new industrial areas. A total of 300 million RUB will be invested in the area. Port capacities are believed to increase to an annual 28,5 million tons in 2010 and 52 million tons in 2020.
