New drilling rig for Barents- and Kara Sea
A new semi-submersible drilling rig intended for the Barents- Kara- and Pechora Seas was Monday laid down at the Zvezda shipyard in Russia’s Far East.
The drilling rig will be operated by Rosneft and its construction costs are estimated to be $700 million, Itar-Tass reports. If the rig-construction is implemented successfully, Rosneft will place an order for another two ice-class drilling rigs before 2018, according to Rosneft CEO Sergei Bogdanchikov.
Russian Prime Minister Valdimir Putin attended the solemn ceremony of the rig at the Zvexda shipyard in Bolshoi Kamen in the Promorsky Territory in the Far East. Earlier the Zvevda shipyard built and repaired nuclear powered submarines.
Rosneft is planning to drill 70 wells on the Russian shelf before 2020, Bogdanchikov told Itar-Tass on Monday.
