New foreign minister for Finland?
A row of sexual scandals might bring down Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilkka Kanerva. The minister has now been granted sick-leave. However, several powerful politicians openly say they want the minister to resign.
After having got massive media attention because of his relations with an erotic dancer, Mr. Kanerva might be forced to leave his post. The minister has reportedly sent more than 200 text messages to the woman.
Some of the messages have been published by celebrity magazine Hymy, as well as the tabloid Ilta-Sanomat.
National Coalition party now proposes Alexander Stubb as new foreign minister, Newsroom Finland reports. Mr Stubb, 40, a former aide to the head of the European commission and a College of Europe scholar, has been a Euro-MP since the 2004 election.
