The new Governor of Murmansk Oblast Dmitry Dmitriyenko highlights the need for cooperation with neighboring Norway and Finland.
In a meeting with the Norwegian and Finnish general consuls in Murmansk, the governor highlighted the importance of international cooperation.
-We are neighbors and good partners, which means that we jointly have to solve the problems which we are facing […], he said, underlining that concrete proposals on economic cooperation should be elaborated.
Mr. Dmitriyenko also highlighted that international cooperation in the region should not only focus on huge projects like the Shtokman field development, but also have a wider approach, a press release from the Murmansk regional administration reads.
Among his priorities is business cooperation. -We seek to support regional small and medium-sized businesses. They will benefit from [international] contact, he said.
-From our side we will always be ready to offer assistance and help with the establishment and support of good-neighbor relations, he underlined.
Murmansk Oblast is one of Russia’s most internationally-oriented regions, with heavy dependency of exports and with good connections with the neighboring Norway and Finland. The region is also a key region in the Barents Euro-Arctic Cooperation. In October this year, the region will host this year’s Barents Council summit.
