New housings for Northern Fleet personnel
The Russian Ministry of Defense plans to build more than 500 flats for Northern Fleet personnel in Murmansk in 2011.
The Northern Fleet will have a key position in Russia’s program for rearmament of the armed forces, said Deputy Minister of Defense Grigory Naginski in a recent visit to the Murmansk region, B-port.com reports. The fleet will get several new vessels and submarines in the years to come, and more emphasis will be placed on raising living standards for the personnel.
Next year the ministry will start building new blocks with a total of 575 flats in Murmansk, approximately 20 kilometers from the Northern Fleet’s main base Severomorsk.
During his visit on the Kola Peninsula, Naginski also inspected the important naval bases of Gadzhievo, Zaozyorsk and Vidyayevo and the naval infantry base of Sputnik. Also here the Ministry of Defense plans to improve living conditions and social infrastructure.
