Nikel has new head of administration

Yesterday evening the Nikel town council delegates finally managed to elect a head of the local administration. The town has been without an executive branch of power for three months.

As BarentsObserver reported two days ago, the people in Nikel were in danger of having to face yet another cold autumn, since it is only the head of administration that has the right to sign contracts on repair of the town’s heating system, which is on the brink of ruin.

Yesterday’s meeting in the town council gathered enough council delegates to elect a new head, TV21.ru reports. After three of the delegates left the meeting, the rest of the delegates decided that the meeting should be carried on with the doors closed, “like they do in the State Duma when state or military secrets are up for discussion”, the TV station jokes.

The name of the new head of administration in Nikel is Aleksander Orlioglo.
