No Gazprom platform in Swedish waters
The Nord Stream company — a joint venture of Gazprom, E.On BASF and Gasunie — yesterday announced that it will not build a pipeline service platform in the Swedish part of the Baltic Sea.
The Russian-German.-Dutch company previously planned to construct the platform close to the island of Gotland, in the middle of the 1200 km long Nord Stream pipeline, which is to stretch from Russian Vyborg to German Greifswald.
In a press release, the company reports that it has withdrawn an application to Swedish authorities regarding the platform. Instead, the company intends to apply new technology developed by General Electrics and the Dutch company Rosen, which makes the use of platforms unnecessary.
Swedish authorities have long expressed scepticism with the huge gas project in the Baltic Sea.
