No Mayor of Murmansk elected in first voting round

None of the candidates to post as Mayor of Murmansk managed to get the necessary 50 percent of the votes to be elected, and a second voting round will have to be held.

According to preliminary results after 90 percents of the votes have been counted, United Russia’s candidate and current Mayor of Murmansk Mikhail Savchenko got 31 percent of the votes, while former Deputy Governor of Murmansk Oblast and independent candidate Sergey Subbotin received 24 percent of the votes. Only these two candidates will compete in the second voting round. On third place in Sunday’s election came Gennady Stepakhno from Communist Party with 17 percent of the votes, MBnews.ru reports.

According to preliminary numbers the election turnout was 46 percent, Novopol.ru reports.

It is not yet known when the second voting round will be held.
